If you’re like me, you have a lot of likes and interests. But what would you consider your passion to be?
I’ve always enjoyed cooking for my family. I didn’t really know how to cook when I moved out of my parents’ house in my early 20s. But my mom always said that if you like to eat, you’ll figure out how to cook. She was right!
After much trial and error (and I still make a few errors!), I became confident enough to experiment with different dishes. My daughters and husband always seemed excited when I would announce that I would be serving an “experiment” for dinner. They were confident in me and that helped build my confidence.
I started posting photos of my meals on Facebook and after awhile, I was getting people requesting that I do a cookbook or a website. Being a graphic designer, a cookbook sounded like fun. I just never got around to it.
During the pandemic, my graphic design business slowed almost to a stop. So, what better time to work on a cooking website – and forget the cookbook. Everything will be online!
After lots of research and gathering of notes and photos, I started my cooking website: FoodieJulieIowa.com – and it’s become my passion.
I have to admit. There are so many cooking sites and YouTube channels out there with much better cooks that I will ever be. But the one thing that I think I bring (literally) to the table is to help people overcome their fears of experimenting in the kitchen and make delicious meals. I try to use a minimal amount of ingredients. I hate seeing a recipe with a huge list, many of the items not readily available. And I try to cook as healthy as possible, using organic when available.
I also like to promote local businesses. We have an amazing spice store in Des Moines’ East Village, AllSpice, and I always share what I use from their store.
Cooking is my passion. It always will be. I’m also happy to say that my graphic design business is taking off again and we’re hopeful that the trend continues.
I’d love to help you with your marketing and design needs. Why don’t we sit down over some homemade goodies in my kitchen to discuss? Hope to hear from you.
All the best,
Julie
